The Imperial Egg Gallery has Australia's largest collection of decorated egg art which is lovingly displayed at the Beaufort Motel. Margaret Saunders, the first owner, has been collecting these amazing pieces of art for over 50 years. She explains her Dad wrote from the war and told her about the beautiful pictures on eggs.
This global collection includes decorated eggs from sharks, emus, doves, quails, ostriches, and crocodiles. If you have talent and imagination there is nothing that cannot be achieved with the humble egg. You will see fusion egg art which is the joining of two or more egg types. Marvel over the 'eggstravaganza' of indigenous art. You will wonder how on earth can they carve and/or decorate that little egg, without it breaking?
Helen Raddin has literally brought the eggs to life with her amazing sculptures that have to be seen to be believed. Indigenous Australians and Africans have been carving eggs for centuries with amazing results. The humble egg has also been used by many artists as the canvas for some unbelievable results.
